Why many of my students stay with me for years When students first join my lessons, it's rarely because they dislike learning. More often, they've reached a point where school explanations aren't quite enough, they're losing confidence before exams, or they know they're capable of better results but aren't sure how to get there. Over the last seven years, I've had the privilege of working with students from Primary School, Secondary School and Junior College, many of whom started with me for a single term and stayed until their national examinations. I'm Shivansh, a Year 3 Medicine student at Nanyang Technological University (NTU), and I teach Mathematics, Science, English and Accounting. Every student learns differently, so I don't believe in delivering the exact same lesson to everyone. The best lessons are the ones that adapt to the student—not the other way around. What parents can expect Instead of simply finishing worksheets together, we work towards a clear goal every lesson. That might mean revisiting weak foundations, improving exam techniques, or learning how to break down unfamiliar questions without panicking. A lesson with me One thing I encourage every student to do is talk through their thinking. Even if an answer is wrong, understanding why they approached it that way tells me far more than simply correcting the final answer. Lessons are interactive, discussion-based and designed to build confidence alongside academic ability. Questions are always encouraged, and mistakes are treated as opportunities to learn rather than something to be embarrassed about. By the time exams arrive, my goal is for students to rely less on memorised methods and more on genuine understanding.
