IB English and O-Level English Tuition | Essay Structure, Literature and Oral Confidence

English improves when students stop trying to sound impressive and learn to make precise choices. I'm Kristen, a Literature graduate from NTU and IB alumna who tutors IB English, O-Level English, essay writing and oral communication for students who need clearer structure and more confidence. I support literary analysis, Paper 1 unseen commentary, Paper 2 essays, comprehension, argumentative writing and presentations, but the heart of my lessons is always the same: helping students read the question closely, choose evidence carefully and write in a voice that is accurate rather than inflated. I teach online and have limited slots around Mandai, Woodlands and Yishun, with lessons suited for students who are willing to revise their own writing rather than simply receive model answers.

Experience

I scored 7 for IB English A Literature HL and later graduated with First Class Honours in English Literature. I have tutored students from international schools, IP schools and O-Level tracks, including students who were strong readers but weak essay writers, and students who had ideas but could not organise them under timed conditions. My teaching is writing-heavy: students bring drafts, paragraphs or practice questions, and we revise them together so they can see what actually changes a weak answer into a stronger one. I teach planning, evidence selection, paragraph structure, close analysis and concise expression. For oral work and presentations, I help students build scripts that sound natural and practise delivery without memorising mechanically, because confident speaking usually starts with clear thinking.

Review Tutor

Student review

"Kristen helped me with IB English and made analysing literary texts feel much less overwhelming. She taught me how to develop clearer arguments, select relevant evidence and organise my essays more effectively. Her feedback was always detailed and specific, which helped me understand exactly where I was losing marks. With her guidance, I improved from a 4 in Year 5 to a 6 in my final IB examinations."
